Court Martial Epilogue
As the sentencing concluded around 1000h, Ensign Vaalk was sentenced to 3 years at the Federation Prison Camp on the moon of Rigel 6 and would be given a dishonorable discharge from the service upon his release. The other 2 were sentenced to the probation and the other stipulations contained in the plea deal.
No more then 3 hours after Tyler had banged the gavel to close out the court martial, Cdr Reynolds recieved orders to arrest and charge Captain Tyler with a list of offenses. Curiously, Reynolds also recieved orders to release the Captain on his own recognizance as Freds trial was not scheduled to begin until for another nearly 2 months. The only condition of the the Captains bail was that he wasn’t allowed to leave the Soval. The start date of the trial was not surprisingly set 1 day after the Soval was scheduled to arrive back at Starbase 72, the site of the trial.
The Sovals unceremoniously departed the system within an hour after the Captain was arrested and charged. Sadly, all his closest friends and confidants were no where to found, all of them having been purposely assigned to 80 person team left in the capable hands of his trusty XO Wong. It would be a long few months before he would see any of them again.
((Irrawaddy, Cockpit, a day later))
The treaty with the Dergans had specific carve outs that allowed the small engineering support team to remain on the orbital station, and for the Starfleeters to finish the archaelogical dig on the surface.
The remainder of Blythe’s old crew and members of the Culver City’s science team would finish conducting the survey dig while the rest of the crew, and the soon to be arriving Santa Monica, would prepare to re-orbit and salvage the Blythe.
As the Soval, along with Tyler and the majority of his old crewmates departed, Commander Wong was appointed to take command of the mission and close out their operations in the Duwallan system.
“Looks like the Santa Monica is going to be arriving soon. We can salvage the Blythe and move on to our new assignment.” Ingram noted sullenly. The mood and morale of the 6 staff members left manning the runabout had noticeably taken a hit since the news had been made public about the Grand Jury choosing to indict the Captain. It had only been a day after the conclusion of the court martial he had been the convening authority for too.
“Yeah…strange I haven’t been given any information about our new assignment either. Just to assemble a team of 80 for a tactically focused mission. And to sit here and wait.” Wong replied.
“Shaka, when the walls fell…I think we have made a discovery sirs!” The Tamarian Patron said as he re-entered the ship theough the open side hatch wiping dirt and dust from his hands before continuing into the rear cabin.
Lieutenant Lotharys, Culver City’s XO and chief science officer, followed behind the child of Tama, poring excitedly over data on a PADD she carried. “It’s really quite exciting!” she said without preamble. “It was definitely a complex structure at one point – I think a temple or palace of some sort, temple if you asked me to put latinum on it. There’s a good amount of cartouches and inscription, which should help us translate their language more effectively. And the statues! You should see the statues; I can only imagine what they would’ve looked like in their prime.”
“The ones missing eyes are a bit unsettling…like Daboor at dawn facing the beast of El-Adrel.” Patron added from the rear cabin.
