Summary
Jonathan Batchelder is a veteran of most of the wars that the Federation has fought, and has been an engineer for his entire career. He’s known for his gruff attitude, and equally genuine desire to help and uphold the tenets of the Federation.
Appearance
Jon is a grizzled old man, but in a relatively good state of health for his age. His hair is dark grey, and his posture tends to be “pensive” at most times.
History
Starfleet Academy
Jon doesn’t consider his time at Starfleet Academy at all interesting, as he mostly kept to himself and went on with his studies. He graduated and was stationed on a starship headed to the front of the Federation-Cardassian War.
2354-2366
Jon’s first posting was aboard the USS Dardanelles, an Excelsior class cruiser. He considers this the posting where he first “cut his teeth,” but also when he first experienced the horrors of war, as he spent the entirety of the first posting embroiled in the Federation-Cardassian War. When the war concluded, he took some much-needed leave to sort out his mental health, doing so on Betazed.
2368-2373
Jon’s second posting was aboard the USS August, a Nebula class cruiser assigned to routine scientific expeditions in the Beta Quadrant. It was aboard this ship that he “got into the groove” of his command style, as the ship’s Assistant Chief Engineer. He is fond of this posting, as he got to participate in numerous away missions, setting up power grids and assisting locals who needed it.
The Dominion War (2373-2375)
Jon was quickly re-assigned as the Chief Engineer of the USS Missoula, a Sovereign class cruiser. Owing to the ship’s capabilities, Jon found himself on the front lines of the war more often than not, fighting yet another of the Federation’s enemies. He partook in numerous away missions, both of the aggressive and supportive kind. At the end of the war, he took yet another sabbatical to take care of himself and his mental state.
2378-2401
Jon was stationed to the USS Richter, this time a small Springfield class ship, assigned to mapping the back end of the Beta Quadrant. It was on this ship he would meet his current commanding officer, and develop a rapport with him. He enjoyed the slower pace of the much smaller ship, and was content to stay on as Chief Engineer for the longest posting he’d had in his career.
2401-Current
In 2401, Jon was assigned to the USS Sevastopol, a Rhode Island class ship. He was told by the Office of Personnel that he was assigned as a “friendly face” to the ship’s new commanding officer, and due to his experience with the belligerents in the region he’d be assigned.
