SBB Roulette prompt from 11/10/25
A bead of sweat rolled down Nico’s face as his hands were moving faster then he could think. There were communications coming in faster than he could keep up with.
‘Where was those helpers?’ he thought to himself… he was promised 2 Operations Cadets to help with the overflow of the Communications Array but so far no show. As it stood it was only the standard compliment of the comms unit. The computer was solidly buzzing instead of the standard beep every two to five seconds, it sounded like someone sat on a button.
“We are receiving more and more comms traffic, what is going on today? Is it prank the Comm’s office day?” Nico took a sip of his Coffee.
After recieving an odd transmission from one of his wives back on Andoria that had implied she had sent a message he had not yet recieved. Traan decided to stop by the comms office and see if their was a lost message or 2, since his wife had mentioned his son sending him a message as well.
“Hey Nico…wow, looks and sounds busy in here today.”
“Yeah we got a new routing server in addition to the comm traffic we already got. You here to help?” Nico asked as he cracked his knuckles.
“Help? No, I was just coming to check on a missing message or two…do you need a hand with something?” Traan could here the constant beeping sound that almost resemble a busy.
“Sounds like a transdater that’s stuck on a feedback loop.” He added.
“That or I am going to hold a Magnet up to the Central core. I have no idea how to fix that.” he said that and the two cadets walked in the door laughing and coffee’s in tow.
“You better have enough for the whole room Cadets, you are late. Take over this station I have to investigate something.” Nico said growing more cross. He went to grab his work case and padds of information flew off. “Leave them… I will get them later.”
“Why dont you show me your router room. If it’s an overloaded transdater stuck on a feedback loop, we probably want fix it before it blows.” Traan added
“Follow me.” Nico said, he hadn’t had a chance to do much of anything, the Chief was no where to be found and well, it was all left to him… he was the senior most Comm’s Officer. As they approached the Router Room a feint smell of something became abundant. “Uhm…. perhaps there may be something more to this.”
He drew his phaser and placed his work case on the floor, he held up his hand to have Traan stay back. Nico opened the door and there was a mad man who charged him… a physical altercation ensued. Managing to subdue the man, “Security needed in Communications Router Room,” he paused and looked up, “and better make that a medical team too.”
The chief’s body was strewn across the console and the part of the machinery that required non interference.
“Ok Nico…what kinna operation you comms guys running up here. This is not what I signed up for when I offered to help…and who in the hell is that?” Traan said after the altercation.
“Well, thats was the Chief Comms Officer… and this is a Kzinti Augment. I think it was meant for me.” It started to stir again, he took his phaser and emitted a heavy stun.
“The question is how the hell did it get in here?” He had to talk to his handler asap.
“Hence my question about what kinna operation yall are running up here.” Traan couldn’t help but chuckle nervously.
“Right, I got it from here.” Nico said, getting up and handing him a phaser from the wall panel on the side. “Go back to your station. I will explain everything later.”
“Uh…ok…sir.” Traan added, half confused and half offended. He didnt have a station, wasn’t in the comms department and had just offered to help. Nico trying to dismiss him in such an odd way had Traan wondering if Nico knew something about what thisnwas all about and was just tryingntinget rid of him. His suspicion were validate a bit when he caught a strange ‘ concerned thinking’ look on Nico’s faced as he shoulder checked and took one last look at his buddy before leaving the office.
As his friend left, he sat back and waited for security to arrive. ‘What the hell is going on?’
