Lieutenant Commander Varyn K’lev sat in his ready room, reading a routine system diagnostics report for the Culver City‘s impulse engines and fusion generators with a cup of coffee on the desk by his monitor.  Suddenly, the voice of Lieutenant Lotharys, who had the conn at the time, came over the intercom.  “We’ve got a message coming in over subspace,” she said.  “It’s the Blythe.”

“I’ll take it in here,” K’lev replied, then straightened in his desk chair before the monitor came to life.

“Greetings Captain. Just figured I’d call and give you an update on what were finding out here in Duwalla. This mission is turning out to have some…confounding factors we’ll say. I’m sending you a data packet with a summary of what we’ve found so far.” Tyler said, his eyes showing signs of a serious lack of sleep.

“I appreciate it, Captain,” he said.  “We should be heading out your way pretty soon, by the way.  How go things in the Expanse?”

“We’re scheduled to arrive in a few hours. I’m sending a list of supplies and equipment here as well as the data packet. A bunch of things that we feel might come in handy.” Tyler finished and K’lev could here Danny Wong, the Blythe‘s XO in the background say ‘as many 2mw fusion generators as you can carry.’

K’lev nodded.  “We’ll see what we can scrounge up.  Both intact units and components to build things, too.  How was the flight?  Anything we need to know about for our transit?”

“The trip through the conduit is pretty amazing and colourful to say the least, I took a few holopics from our observation lounge on the way through. And there has been some reports of a few acts of piracy throughout the expanse in the first few days here but we didn’t have any issues on the way.” Tyler replied.

“That’s good to know,” K’lev said.  “Gotta say, my crew and I are all looking forward to getting out there in the Expanse.”

“Indeed, we look forward to working with you again Captain. But I’ll let you go, just wanted to touch base before you were on the way.” Tyler replied.

“It’s appreciated, Captain, and we look forward to working with you again, too.  I’ll go ahead and file the cargo requisition, and we’ll see you out there soon,” K’lev answered.
