‘Mercifully, General Oh saw sense, or at least that her aspirations were thwarted with the destruction of the Coppelius Beacon, and ordered the withdrawal of Romulan forces.’ Admiral Beckett’s gaze swept across the faces of the other officers gathered at the round briefing table in the heart of Starbase Bravo. The six were the highest authorities of the 4th Fleet, but it was rare for them all to gather at such short notice in one of the most secure meeting rooms in the sector to be briefed by the fleet’s Director of Intelligence personally, with no aides present. Beckett’s taste for theatrics had bowed to the restricted nature of the meeting, the circular briefing...End of the Archanis Campaign
‘Task Force 17’s deep space exploratory force was delayed in deploying to the Delta Quadrant because of Archanis. Forces pushing Federation interests in the Triangle, in the old Neutral Zone, on the Cardassian border - doing more than sitting back and playing it safe - were redirected to protect this sector. It was an emergency, and we are sworn as Starfleet officers to preserve lives. But the emergency has passed.’ Beckett straightened his back and his uniform. ‘And I’ll be damned if I let political interests tether us to playing nursemaid to a backwater sector because elements in Command don’t want us returning to our primary duty.’
Lockhart watched him a moment, and he...The Archanis Campaign Begins
Today marks the start of the Archanis Campaign, launching on the Bravo Fleet forums! All members are welcome to take part in our first Bravo Fleet Campaign, a writing event led by the Lore Office but driven by you, determining the future of Fleet canon!
The Hunters of D’Ghor have attacked the Archanis Sector. Renegade Klingons who consider everyone potential prey, Imperial or Federation alike, this unprecedented aggression has thrown the border sector into chaos. Colony worlds have been raided for resources, transports attacked, border defence platforms destroyed. And there is no sign of stopping.
The local Task Group is outmatched by this new threat. The Klingon Empire too...The Archanis Campaign – Coming Soon!
If anyone’s paid closer attention to the Lore Office’s announcements than they really should, you might have picked up my Subtle Hints of something in the works. This Something has been stewing since I became Loremaster, and with the wiki released, our first competitions completed, and the festive season behind us, it’s time to pull back the curtain on our next project: Fleet Campaigns.
These are writing and role-play events, run by the Lore Office and held on the forums. Lasting a few months, they will focus on a critical event in Bravo Fleet canon with which all members may engage. Through writing your own stories about the adventures of your ship or team, or joining others in...Operational Readiness Protocols Results
The Lore Office kicks off 2021 with the end of our first departmental competitions, the Operational Readiness Protocols! Rear Admiral Beckett cast his judgemental eye upon the ranks of the Fourth Fleet, its commanders, ships, and crew, and has assessed them... adequate.
Everyone's a critic.
But as Loremaster, I'm thrilled. These competitions have been more than fun and games, but labours of love. Every submission showed how much you all value your characters, your ships, and your work. It gives me great pleasure to reveal the winners here.
Captain on Deck!
This was the most competitive category, so particular congratulations to those who placed!
3rd Place: Woozamagoo's...Operational Readiness Protocols – Lore Office Competitions Month
‘If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles,’ mused Admiral Beckett.
Because the admiral was staring out his office window, his adjutant got away with rolling her eyes. ‘Yes, sir,’ said Lieutenant Dathan, voice more controlled than her expression.
‘But it’s meaningless for the Fourth Fleet to have ships in every corner of the galaxy, surveillance outposts on a dozen borders, field officers liaising with every major power, without truly knowing our assets.’ Beckett turned in his chair, gaze cold.
Lieutenant Dathan realised he might have noticed her irritation, and tensed. ‘We have personnel records from all Task Forces,...New Wiki!
Coming to you straight from the basement in which I keep the Canon Team, the Lore Office proudly presents the brand spanking new Bravo Fleet wiki!
The previous Bravo Fleet wiki was old and sprawling. A beloved archive, for sure, but one of a bygone age. In updating Bravo Fleet lore for the Picard era, we kept finding artifacts of stories 5, 10 years old. Were they still BF canon? Should a member take everything on the wiki as gospel? In the end, we decided on a clean break. A new wiki for a new era. A lot of the information has, of course, moved over. But we've approached this by choosing what to keep, rather than choosing what to get rid of. Now everything should be accurate and...Whose Lore is it Anyway?
You've read the BFCO's last announcement (I hope, you naughty slackers, you). Task Forces aren't running lore anymore, they're not responsible for a quarter+ of a quadrant anymore. They just have themes. I’m sure you’re thinking things like: What does a 'theme' mean here? What do I do as a writer now? Who's making story happen? Who are you? How did you get in here?
In short: BF canon is now accessible by everyone, wherever you are. But I’ve never been concise in my life, and don’t intend to start now.
Previously we always said a TF member, or a sim in a TF, were not nailed to the floor in their area of operations. A sim in TF72 could go have Klingon adventures. A member of TF9...Canon Team Recruitment
Good morning Bravo Fleet!
I haven't had much to show you yet from the Lore Office, but that'll change soon, I promise. There's lots going on behind the scenes, and it's been made significantly easier by the newest member of the Lore Office: McGig, our new Wiki Administrator. He's already been invaluable as we get to work, and I look forward to all our future projects.
But wait! There's more! Specifically, there is a lot of content development the Lore Office still needs to do for the wiki. Most significantly, there are a lot of government powers that need coherent, useful articles updated to 2399. Beyond that, individual regions, like the old Romulan Neutral Zone or the Triangle,...New Loremaster, New Opportunities!
Hullo, Bravo Fleet! Were you all tired of my announcements as Chief of Staff? I've got good news and bad news, then. Good news: I'll be making fewer of them. Bad news: You still have to sit through this one.
I am thrilled to bits to take on the role of Bravo Fleet Loremaster. The Lore Office is a fantastic resource, here to work with Task Forces in developing a universal canon for the Fleet. This means every story has the capacity to impact another, and we can all contribute to the dynamic universe of 2399, instead of only experiencing or being affected by our separate games. It means long-term narratives, stories that prevail through staff changes or unit reshuffles. It means...New OCS Staff – Competitions Manager!
You like competitions? You like the fiendish quizzes or the fun puzzles or the engaging writing challenges? We know you do! That's why the Office of the Chief of Staff opened up its doors to find a new staff member dedicated to the management of competitions. I'd like you all to congratulate Callaghan, who will be joining my staff and taking on this responsibility.
If you want to run a competition but need some advice, or if you just want to know more, please do get in touch with them. They're here to guide and here to help. I'm optimistic that with Callaghan in the role we'll see more competitions - from the OCS, from Task Forces, even from keen members (remember, any of you can do...Quiz Winners!
It's a good time for competitions right now in BF! Members have mere days if they want to participate in the third and final phase of the 'As Time Goes By' event, but in the meantime we had two fiendishly tough quizzes put forward by another of our members, Callaghan. Those closed this week, which means, yes - it's time for the winners!
First, the Timeline quiz, in which the year of events from main Trek and BF canon of the 2360s onward had to be correctly guessed. All three who placed scored 100%, but some participants were quicker than others.
Second Place: JEBryson325
Third Place: MJ
Second, the How Well Do You Know Your Star Trek...Test Yourselves – new competitions!
We're in a golden age of competitions right now. While the Holodeck continues to spoil us with the As Time Goes By event, we're also bringing you two pretty dang fiendish quizzes from one of our very own. They're short and sweet and fun, the perfect thing to tackle over your morning coffee.
I myself was pretty challenged when vetting these; if you want to get everything right, I'm sure you can take your time. Check Google. Check Memory Alpha. Getting them right is one thing. But if you want to win, you're going to have to get them right fastest.
First, we have the simple Timeline quiz, chock-full of events from the 2360s to 2399, both in Trek canon and BF lore. Get the exact year...Recruitment: Office of the Chief of Staff
The Office of the Chief of Staff is recruiting! As we examine the needs of the department, we have a new open position I would like to announce: Command Adjutant, Competitions.
Overseeing competitions is one of the most important and entertaining parts of the OCS. Competitions help build our community, help members progress and win awards, and above all, are part of the fun of Bravo Fleet. We organise them and we help others organise them. Every competition in the Fleet must be vetted by the OCS to be sure it is clearly and fairly designed, and then set up on the BFMS. The OCS is looking for a staff member dedicated to this role.
The tasks involved in this role require a mixture of...Starfleet Medals of Commendation & OCS News
Happy Gene's Birthday, one and all!
This is a great day in particular for the Office of the Chief of Staff. In honour of this auspicious Trekkie date, Bravo Fleet awards the annual Starfleet Medal of Commendation to a variety of members who have made great contributions over the past year. From current staffers, hard-working community participants, and even some who've stepped down from positions but whose contributions cannot be overlooked, this is a chance for the OCS to honour some of our best and brightest. Task Force COs have nominated a series of members, and with ratification by the OCS (and a few of our own additions of the deserving), we have made our decision.
Please, folks,...New Competitions!
It's a good month for competitions in Bravo Fleet! We've had ones hosted by the BFA, but the Office of the Chief of Staff is proud to present today two designed by the membership.
Our first is a writing competition with a meaty and challenging conceit, both on a creative and an ethical level. I look forward to seeing what you will produce for Griff's challenge: The Prime Directive... or Death.
The second, from Alexandus, is for anyone who loves Trek ships and has an artistic eye! From those who are a dab hand with a pencil or graphics package to those who know how to take that perfect beauty-shot of a screenshot. It's the Show Off Your Inner Artist competition, with a starship...Promotion Criteria Updates
Hello Bravo Fleet!
Our new model is always a work in progress. We want our award and rank schemes to reward people for the work they're doing, and encourage people to sometimes try out new activities, engage in this wider community we're building. With that in mind, the Office of the Chief of Staff has updated the promotion criteria, from Cadet Freshman Grade right the way up to Lieutenant Commander. You can find it all on our ranks page.
These changes have come about from seeing how much people are engaging with certain things, whether our expectations were realistic, and adjusting accordingly. Some of the most notable changes are:
Different activity threshold for Star Trek...Legacy Awards and Spring Cleaning!
We're a month now into the new model, and we at the Office of the Chief of Staff are constantly trying to streamline the process for everyone - new members, current members, the leadership. So here's our latest update on a couple of changes, intended to improve everything for everyone.
Some of you may have noticed in the last week that the awards of some older members have changed. The Hall of Honour in Bravo Fleet has historically been a complicated beast - once it included IC awards for things that happened to your character, right alongside OOC awards representing player excellence. It has always been chronically under-utilised, sometimes more of an indication of who was...Fleet Awards: April & Quarter 1!
It gives me great pleasure to introduce the all new monthly awards. In the past, Task Forces picked out their own preferred candidates and rewarded them accordingly. Things have changed in the new model, as these candidates are now submitted to the Office of the Chief of Staff where we pick out those who shone brightest this month across the whole Fleet.
Why? Several reasons. This way allows for greater consistency; now every winner is judged by the same criteria and held to the same standard. We used to see some sims and players dominate in TFs with fewer games, and while those still have an advantage in that they're more likely to be nominated, they still have to prove...New Policies & a New Look!
It's been a busy two weeks of the new system, especially here at the Office of the Chief of Staff. We've been thrilled to see the high levels of engagement from all corners of the fleet with activity records, award nominations, and even a few promotions going through!
Today we bring you three updates. The first is the not-very-glamorous but hopefully illuminating release of our Office of the Chief of Staff Policy! A lot of information on how the new Bravo Fleet system works has come in small doses these past few weeks. This new policy document provides guidance to our members on the rules governing our reward systems, member transfers, competitions, and more, and I anticipate it will...How To: Recording Activity
It's been over a week since our relaunch of Bravo Fleet, and we're really excited to see this fresh flurry of activity. But we know that there's a lot to take on board. We've made a lot of changes to the system and to the website, and we want to make sure everyone has the guidance they need. This article explains how players can go about reporting and recording their activity.
Progress in Bravo Fleet by gaining ranks and awards comes down to activity. There are a lot of activities in Bravo Fleets, from personal writing, to simming, to gaming. To make things simpler for Task Force Senior Staff so they don’t have to watch everyone’s disparate Nova sites or forum threads, a lot of a...March 2020 Awards
Welcome to the monthly awards for March 2020! These are particularly special, as they will be the last of their kind ahead of the imminent changes coming to Bravo Fleet. Going forward, our monthly awards for games and their players will go fleet-wide. Task Forces will be welcome to submit their nominations to the Office of the Chief of Staff, but there will only be one Player of the Month, one Sim of the Month. So join me in this, the last of the Task Force-wide awards - where nominated - for Bravo Fleet players and games!
Player of the Month (TF38)
Captain Kudred Valyn of Starbase 38
"Christopher has been with Starbase 38 and TF38 for a little over a month now and...Return of Relay Station Bravo
I am happy to announce the return of our very own Bravo Fleet forums, the Relay Station Bravo!
RSB was shut down in the last year due to lack of use. Members had understandably moved on to the easier communication of Discord, and it was the judgement of the BFA that the forums were not a useful part of the community any more. While this was a shame, as the forums have been a major part of Bravo Fleet's community for almost 20 years, it was the right decision.
So why bring it back? Because the new RSB has a slightly different purpose. While we are not curbing their use as a discussion board, we will grow those sections of the forums in line only with demand. The new RSB's primary...Bravo Fleet 2020: New Rank Structure
April is going to be an exciting month for Bravo Fleet! In just a few short weeks, on April 25, the new model for the Fleet will be rolling out. We're excited to be able to reveal more details of how this is going to work. A broad overview has been released already with our Roadmap article, which I recommend you read if you're still scratching your head. But today we can show the new rank structure for the Fleet.
In the past, ranks have been given out with a blend of what suits the characters and as OOC rewards for the players. The new format is going to better reflect the efforts and contributions of players, and bring codification and consistency. It also better reflects one of the...The Osiris Initiative: Welcome to 2399
“We withdrew. The galaxy was mourning, burying its dead, and Starfleet slunk from its duties.” - Jean-Luc Picard
The galaxy is a more dangerous place than it was twenty years ago. The Romulan supernova triggered a massive disruption to the balance of powers in the Alpha and Beta Quadrant. The Attack on Mars wounded the heart of the Federation and hampered Starfleet’s shipbuilding for years. Weak against these disruptions abroad and with trouble at home, Starfleet reduced its presence in the wider galaxy, along borders, and in troublesome hot-spots.
After fourteen years, Starfleet is finally in a position to flex its muscles again. To reinforce its own troubled corners...February 2020 Awards
It is a little difficult to have verve and joy with the state of the world at present. I would hope very much that our corner of the internet is a place we can find some solace or, at least, entertainment. As such, I'm particularly pleased to hand out our awards for February. They are little things, but I hope they go a little way to brightening the days of some of our fine players. Please do join me in celebrating Bravo Fleet excellence.
Player of the Month (TF25)
Lieutenant Sandra Risa, USS Proxima
"Lynda is a fantabulous writer and fantastically collaborative! She is joy to write with and always finds a little humour in even the most serious of...January 2020 Awards!
It gives me great pleasure to issue my first round of monthly awards for the Task Forces who submitted such excellent nominations. This, as well as the uptick in Hall of Honour nominations really does mean I have the best job in the Fleet if I get to recognise excellence in our organisation. So without further ado:
Player of the Month (TF38)
Commander Roy Tanner, USS Apollo
"Mark has really hit the ground running on the Apollo, participating at a very high level right from the beginning. He's been willing to do joint posts with anyone and is helping the group leaders keep an eye on activity. Additionally, he's volunteered to be part of the specs team in his first month...Update from the Chief of Staff and January 2020 Competition Winners!
Posted by on February 6, 2020
Hello! And may I begin by saying what an honour and delight it is to assume the office of the Bravo Fleet Chief of Staff. This is a great opportunity to give more to the Fleet and build on everything we've developed these past 20 years, and I'm looking forward to it greatly.
As such, it gives me great pleasure for my first act to be to reveal the results of the January 2020 Jigsaw Competition. It was great to see people come and participate in a simple, but fun game, and I hope we will see both more of these and more participation in the future. Not every competition needs to be a grand, time-consuming work of art, and it's a lot of fun to give everyone a chance for a good-natured...Task Force 72 – Monthly Report November 2019

Administrator’s Office, Horizon Colony, Pergamon IV
The Gavarian Corridor
‘If all of these things are true,’ said Captain Tau, steepling his fingers as he looked across the governor’s desk at the steel-haired woman herself and the farmer who’d brought his reports and protests, ‘then this is serious indeed.’
‘It’s very serious, Captain,’ said Administrator Yeats with a small harrumph of indignation. ‘Cardassian settlers stealing our produce. Infringing on our land. Blockading normal trade between us. How can they pretend we’re two settlements peacefully coexisting when they seek to exploit and dominate us at any opportunity?’
‘The impact upon...Task Force 72 Operational Report – September 2019

Trice Farm, Horizon Colony, Pergamon IV
‘Let this be a lesson to you.’ With the mask, his voice reverberated more deeply than he expected, which suited him well enough. The sun hung fat and heavy in the sky behind him, painting him and his half-dozen friends in monstrous, shadowed silhouettes lined across the wheat field, an impenetrable barrier.
Their quarry, the Cardassian farmer who had been so burly and bold when they’d first found him, now had a quaver in his arms as he rolled onto his hands and knees. ‘I don’t know who took your people.’
‘Maybe true. Maybe not.’ He hefted the old hunting rifle. It needed reloading after the initial...Task Force 72 – Operational Report – July 2019

The Devil to Pay
Conference Room: Starbase 217
“Seems a bit bold.”
Colonial Planner Madison looked away from the holographic projection and gave the Starfleet officer a level look. “Thank you, Commander,” she said acerbically. “Nobody’s pointed that out before.”
“I just would have thought,” said Lieutenant Commander Vikar, crossing the conference room to nod at the multitudinous planets on the holographic display, “a settlement could have been found with more room.”
“Let’s cut to the chase,” said Madison. Steely-haired and steely-eyed, she had done enough rounds with Starfleet over her long career to know how to handle them, and to be...
