She’s actually a retired former Captain in the Starfleet Corps of Engineers Operations officer, having served from 2303 through until the later half of the Cardassian Border wars over her objection to the abandonment of several colonies she had helped build decades before without even puting uo a fight. After a brief stint as a Professor of both History and Engineering at Yale University, she booked passage on transport heading to the Gamma quadrant a year after the Bajoran Wormhole was rediscovered. She returned to the Alpha quadrant mere days before the the Dominion War broke out, and rejoined Starfleet as a consultant for R&D begore tranferring to the Diplomat Corps. She left the service again in 2385 After the ‘Nick Locarno Affair’, but remained on the reserve list. In the aftermath of the Frontier Day attacks, the Dominion Lost Fleet, and the Vaadwaur Invasion, Starfleet was running critically low on personnel, and in June of 2402, Aruin recieved a message asking her to return to active duty. The voluntary assignment offer sheet read through, which she could always refuse was for a short assignment as a Diplomat on the starship Blythe. It would also include a temporary rank reduction to Commander, which she accepted eager, simply due to boredom. And she was fine with the rank reduction aswell, as she had always had disdain for the pomp and ceremony and politiking of here peers when she had been a member of the ‘Brass’ over 4 and a half decades prior.

Zero f’s given, no filter, opinionated and obstinent when she feels she is right. Takes pride in her engineering acumen. She, like all fellow El Aurians is a listener by nature, but unlike some members of her species, she has no qualms about using her perceptive abilities to manipulate others. An aggressive diplomat that bargained hard and is often seen as risk alienating when debating representatives from other cultures. She has successfully accomplished every diplomatic assignment she’s recieved though.
