Appearance

Marisol was 5’5″. Her shoulders were sometimes known to round inward. She was the daughter of a Métis mother and a Vietnamese father. She had a brush of freckles across her nose and cheeks.   Her closet of uniforms was replaced every few weeks due to her slightly worn seams at the cuff.  She would subconsciously adjust or tug at them.

Her glasses were a psychological choice as they helped her focus and concentrate.  They also served as a physical and tactile barrier when she needed to withdraw into herself.

Her hands often had graphite or marker smudges. In her spare time, she loved sketching and working out orbital and navigational plots by hand.

Personality

Marisol Tran was soft-spoken and reserved. Her perfectionist attitude was more than just that—it was an obsession with and a drive for precision. Having found early success in her cadet classes, she struggled with imposter syndrome and avoided the spotlight. Tran found comfort in solitude and often locked herself in the simulators or holodecks to practice. Her humor was dry and rarely heard aside from those she trusted implicitly.

History

Early Life (2381-2398)

Her mother was a civil engineer, and her father was an agricultural technician. Their lives were simple and quiet in rural western Canada. Their community wasn’t interested in life beyond their own, and space did not figure into their future. Marisol was shy as a child but showed an early connection to puzzles. Eventually, as she grew into her teenage years, she asked for satellite imagery to study. She became fascinated with the mathematics of motion shortly after.  In high school, she began to study orbital mechanics.  At first, it was Class M planets.  Her hunger for more expanded her search into other planet types, and eventually into subspace.

Her parents and the community were initially concerned—was this rebellion? Was there someone out there she was chasing? Soon, it became obvious to all—Marisol was destined to fly. Her first experiences piloting a shuttle were jarring, but her learning curve was brief. She spent her senior year in high school deciding between science, engineering, and flight control.  At the urging of her parents, she applied to Starfleet Academy and the flight control program.  She was accepted.

Starfleet Academy (2398-2402)

In the academy, she earned the nickname “Wind Whisperer.” Her calm demeanor and control gave her a reputation, but not all of it was positive.  Among the hotshots grew a resentment for her grace and near perfection.  She ignored them but was unable to mute their words and glances.  It led her to retreat further into herself.

Starfleet (July 2402 to Present)

Assigned as chief flight officer on the USS Cushing.
