“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled” – Plutarch
In the distant reaches of the 25th Century, the USS San Clemente quietly carries out its mission in Task Force 17, part of Starfleet’s Fourth Fleet. A specialist unit dedicated to the exploitation of deep space.
Commanded by Jorik Traven, the USS San Clemente (Mente) is a California class utility cruiser, named, as with other ships of her class, after a city in California on Earth. While more advanced and sometimes more famous vessels chart bold new paths through the vastness of space, the Mente ensures these can happen. Operating within Task Group 9, she supports the Starfleet’s mission of exploration into the unknown with missions that, though less glamorous, are no less essential to the Federations continued presence out in the black. Operating from the far-flung staging post of Deep Space 17, a Canopus-class station on the Typhon frontier, the Mente is at the cutting edge of discovery.
Though, often overshadowed by shiny new classes of starship, the California Class represents the backbone of Starfleet in their mission to reach beyond the stars. They’re designed for routine, yet indispensable duties such as Scientific Surveying, Engineering Support and Medical Transport. The Mente is no different, as an Engineering specialist vessel, she’s cut out to assist, support and maintain Starfleet’s vessels and outposts throughout the void of space.
In a galaxy full of uncertainties, it’s ships like the USS San Clemente that keep the United Federation of Planets ideals alive out in the fringes of space.

USS San Clemente
At 1500 one of the monitors chimed. Rebecca read the message on the screen and sighed, a routine supply delivery was ready to collect from the cargo bay. Routine deliveries never had anything they actually needed and was bound to just fill up the storage cupboard for months without being [...]

USS San Clemente
It was quiet in sickbay, a little too quiet. PO Rebecca Thorne stood in the doorway leading to the CMO’s office with a mug of coffee, the steam raising from the liquid. She watched the empty biobed readouts glow a steady blue. There was a faint vibration in the deckplates, she could feel it [...]

The Stars seemed to come to a stop on the forward viewscreen as the USS San Clemente dropped out of warp. Relay Delta was visible with another ship vessel nearby, a much larger frame than the Mente with a broad sensor pod atop, the USS ibn Al-Haytham, the Sutherland class research vessel had [...]

Brunak and his team worked for hours to install a containment grid in Biolab 2, the Mente was never meant as a science vessel and seeing what this object did to the relay meant there were taking no chances. The containment field came online, the blue of the field bathing the Biolab in its light. [...]
