Byron looked at his schedule and saw that he was expecting his new operations officer at any moment. He checked his office, making certain he had refreshments available and waited for him to arrive. It was a few minutes early, it said a lot about a person when they showed up for a meeting, especially the initial one with their commanding officer.

Byron was, by nature, easy going and seldom one to be irritable but his first officer had caught him at the end of a long trip that felt like he wasn’t ever going to make it.

He had hoped to see his family and as of yet that had not happened. He was determined to make the time.

Draven walked into the ready room for the USS Oakland. Most of the Oakland was still recovering from the damage left by the Vaadwaur. It was currently in dock, in Starbase Bravo undergoing mandatory repairs. Luckily though it repairs were going to be quick and easy, probably why it was bumped up on the list.

Draven knew he was needed as soon as possible. He noticed the Captain wasted no time requesting his presence. “Ensign Darven Blackwell reporting as ordered, Captain.” Draven said as he snapped to the position of attention.

“At ease, Ensign.” Byron spoke quietly. “Have a seat. If you want something to drink, please help yourself, we have much to do here.”

“Captain, I am eager to start. I know the corp of engineers is going to do a half ass job at best, and I am going to have some long nights. I am looking forward to it sir. I need to keep my mind focus on something positive. The Vaadwaur incident has me a little shaken up.” Draven pointed out, hoping the Captain did not want to talk about it.

“As it does all of us.” Byron replied stiffly. He hoped Ensign Blackwell wasn’t carrying a lot of baggage. “Is there anything I need to be concerned about in relation to the Vaadwaur and you?”

“I am okay, Captain. Seriously I am, I just need to feel useful, and do my part sir. That is the best therapy for me, Captain.” Draven said, hoping the Captain would agree with him.

“Then you have come to the right place.” Byron smiled. “We have a lot to get done in a short time. I am expecting a meeting to be called any day and I am counting on you to help get us prepared.” He looked at Darven. “That being said my door is open should you have concerns.”

“Captain, I appreciate that.” Draven said, with a nervous smile on his face.

“I am going to want you to meet up with the Chief Engineer, Ensign Davies so the two of you can coordinate what you both will be concentrating on.”

“We will get the Oakland back on her feet in no time, Captain.” Draven said with a big bold smile on his face. He had no doubt in his mind, they would be able to get Oakland, out of dock in record time.

“That is good to hear.” Byron said with a nod. “Your dismissed.” He wanted to keep the meeting short and get friendly so they could get the ship repaired.
