Thracia had come on board just a bit ago and was scheduled to meet with the captain. She rang his buzzer and entered when he gave permission. She stopped in front of his desk.

“Lieutenant Junior Grade Sh’Thanlink reporting for duty, Captain.” She said as she stood at attention.

“Welcome aboard.” Byron said warmly. “Please have a seat.” He waited for her to sit down. “Can I get you a refreshment?” He asked her.

“I am good, Sir.” Thracia said with a smile. “Thank you for asking.”

“Have you checked out your office yet.” Byron asked. “If so, is there anything that needs some attention.” The ship had needed a lot of work so he wasn’t surprised when she slid a padd across to him.

“It is mostly face work.” Thracia admitted. “I like my office to be warm and inviting.” She paused. “There is no furniture, a desk, some chairs.”

“I will get it taken care of.”  Byron spoke immediately. “I will bet a hold of Lieutenant Commander Robinson and have her assign someone to take care of it. If you haven’t heard anything by tomorrow contact her and she will let you know when to expect it.”

“I have another request.” Thracia said. “On a personal note, I would like the temperature control in my room set lower.” She smiled then. “I prefer it to be much cooler than most are used to. It was rather uncomfortable trying to rest last night.”

“I’ll have engineering stop by your quarters and take care of that.” Byron replied. “I am glad to see you aren’t afraid to speak up for what you need or want.”

“I believe that being forthwith about these things is the best way to handle them.” Thracia explained. “As a counselor, I will also come to you on behalf of patients if they give me permission. I believe the best crew are ones that are open and honest with each other and don’t play games.” Her eyes met his. “You cannot help your crew if they don’t speak to you of their issues.”

“I could not agree more.” Byron nodded. “I sent you a list of crew that needs their clearance from you. I would like you to get on it right away. If necessary, use one of the conference rooms until your furniture is delivered. Just check with operations to make certain they know it is being occupied.”

“I will do that, Captain.” Thracia said with a nod. “It should be fine to use the conference room, it is a preliminary session, to clear them for duty.”

“Is there any other questions that you have for me?” Byron asked her as he waited to see if she had anything else.

“That is all I have for now.” Thracia said seriously. “I will let you know if anything else should come up, Sir.”

“You can also speak with Lieutenant Commander Robinson.” Byron suggested. “At the moment it might be easier for you to meet with her than me. I have been buried in paperwork and meetings.”

“Understood, Captain,” Thracia said quietly.

“You are dismissed, Lieutenant.” Byron said and watched as she left and then turned back to his computer.
