Location: USS Oakland, Transporter Room
Riana beamed over to the USS Oakland, and she was instantly greeted by the first officer Lieutenant Commander Isabel Robinson. “I’m Ensign Riana uzo, permission to come aboard?”
Isabel smiled and with her strong Irish accent she said, “permission granted I’m sorry if your orders caught you by surprise, but we needed you right away. I’m sorry your Department Chief couldn’t meet you here but we have a lot going on in counseling is really backed up right now.” Isabel said that she motioned with her hand for her to step off the transporter pad.
“I heard that everybody’s doing double shifts, and we’re trying to get the Oakland ready to lunch soon is that a fair assessment Commander?” Riana as she walked off the transporter pad and then reached over to shake Isabel’s hand.
“Correct, we’re at the latter half of our refit and production has gone down a little bit and canceling can’t keep up with the workload originally we were going to wait to get our assisted Chief but now with everything that’s going on we felt like it was vital to get you to a board now.” Isabel suggested to her, I should continue the motion for her to follow her.
“I have a list of patients that your Department chief wants you to personally handle. It’s a lot of the enlisted personnel, how long would you need to get set up?” Isabel asked as she waited for a response. She hoped sooner the better.
“Right away I can always put my duffel here in my room later.” Riana suggested to Isabel.
“Right now we have you staying in the quads, a lot of these staff quarters are unacceptable right now. We’re being advised that they will be online in time for our launch.” Isabel explained to you Riana. Before she could protest Isabel continued on. “Even I’m staying in a bank currently, they’re not that bad and they’re kind of cozy and they have privacy curtains.”
Riana could not really argue that point, if the first officer is staying in them then she really had no merit to complain. “Well I’m ready now then, we could check out my bunk later or I can find it on my own.” Riana pointed out to her as they continue to walk down the corridors.
Location: USS Oakland, Engineering
Tolis Sh’Vrenoth the Helmsman for the USS Oakland was spending a lot of time down in engineering trying to help him get the navigation program working within acceptable parameters.
It wasn’t very easy the nav system was completely replaced and updated to the current specs about this older ship did not like a lot of the new upgrades so they had to replace a lot of the eps conduits and the isolinear chips.
The Oakland, was being completely retrofitted. It did pretty well in the skirmish regarding the Vaadwaur, she did however take quite a beating and a lot of her systems needed to be updated if she was going to continue to serve in the Fourth Fleet Operations.
Draven Blackwell the chief operations officer walked over to him. “I sure hope you got Lila’s permission to make these modifications because she is a little territorial about her engineering section.” He advised him.
“The chief engineer can be a little bit of a geyser, but she loves this ship. She knows what she’s doing. Yes I have been keeping her updated every step of the way, I appreciate your concern, sir.” Tolis said with the big grin on his face.
“Good I just wanted to make sure cuz I noticed you’ve been making a lot of modifications or replacing a lot of the isolinear chips. I’m glad to see if not just me that’s noticing a lot of the systems are completely outdated.
“I would like to say she did pretty well for being outdated.” Tolis said with astonishment. Most ships weren’t being updated to the latest version they were just rushed into service so they could bolster the Federation Fleet and try to relaunch the exploration initiative. The Oakland happened to be one of those shifts I didn’t receive the full upgrade before her battle damage at Starbase Bravo.
However now she was receiving the full update, they’re targeting systems for navigation and weapons have been increased. The new ISO linear chips really increased the navigational sensor range, and it’s collision detection system was finally updated. For a long time they were running on adequated technology.
“That she has, I won’t take up too much of your time. I just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to be in the crosshairs of the chief engineer.” Draven suggested, looking out for his fellow officers.
Location: USS Oakland, Mess Hall
Stella and Erica we’re both just entering the mess hall. It was towards the end of the lunch rush. And they saw Andrea just standing over by the table top helping us so they customers. In reality Stella and Erica were the last two in line. “I’m sorry ladies the good seats are all taken, unless you all want to sneak into the captain’s mess but I wouldn’t recommend it.”; Andrea said with the teasing grin in her voice.
“A table to table but looks like there’s only one four person table, I don’t suppose you’d want to join us would you Chef?” Stella asked what the warm smile on her face.
“I wouldn’t want to impose.” Andrea said, she appreciate the offer but she didn’t want to be a burden either.
“You wouldn’t be hella are we supposed to get to know our new chef unless we have a meal with her.” Erica asked her.
“You know that’s a very good point, and you’re right I would love to ladies.” Andrea said as she did stuff to two girls will play and herself and the three of them headed over to the four person table that was in the center of the room.
After three of them sat down, Andrea decided to start up the conversation. She kind of wanted to know who they were and what their jobs were. So she asked. “Well you both know me I’m Andrea Eggerton the chef, but I don’t know you two. I would like to change that.” Andrea suggested with the big grin on her face.
“Stella Elwell, Chief of Security.” Stella said if she reached over the table to shake her hand.
“Erica Jones, Chief Science Officer.” Erica followed suit with Stella and reached over to shake her hand as well.
“Well I appreciate the two of you offering a place for me to sit down and eat. To be honest you two are the First. I know that everybody’s been working long shift so the message has been pretty quiet as of late. It’s not like my previous assignment where there was always commotion and activity. Right now it seems like everybody wants to hurry up and eat something go back to work.” Andrea pointed out hoping that maybe somebody could fill her in. She kind of got the just that they were in a hurry to get the ship back together.
“We’re currently going through a retrofit and Starfleet command once it’s back out and deep space soon they have a mission for us but of course they won’t tell us what the mission is until we complete our repairs and retrofit.” Stella said A little annoyed. Maybe if they knew what their mission was it might motivate them even more.
“You know Starfleet has a reason for not telling us yet, and we just have to trust in the process just like I’ve told you a hundred times already.” Erica said teasing Stella.
“They probably do have a reason but I am grateful that Starfleet did do one huge favor for us.” Stella said with a big grin on her face that she looked over to Andrea then to Erica.
“If you don’t mind me asking what is that?” Andrea asked.
“They authorized us to have a chef so we didn’t have to eat that God awful replicator. I don’t see those replicators over there being used for more than just simple beverages or ice cream.” Stella said with the big grin on her face that continued to grow more and more.
Erica chummed in. “Seriously thank you for coming aboard with us. I hope they gave you adequate quarters. Right now they got all of us in bunk rooms.”
“Actually I get a bunk too, I got a bottom bunk though some of the crew made sure of it cuz they said something about a Happy Chef is a happy life. I think that’s very sweet of them but honestly I would have slept anywhere dropped going bottom bunk middle bunk it doesn’t matter to me.”
“I can’t promise you you’re unreal once the retrofits complete but I will do my best to try to see what I can come up with for you.” Stella suggested to Andrea.
“I appreciate that but it’s not necessary, I’m quite content with my bunk.” Andrea advised her. She did not want any special accommodations for her. She was just one of the crew.
“Are you sure I am the chief of security after all.” Stella asked, just making sure she wasn’t just trying to be polite. She was sincere when she said she would try to get her better quarters.
“I’m quite sure, but I do appreciate the sentiment nonetheless.” Andrea said as the three ladies continue talking. The scene starts to fade away.
